Campotondo

A simple variation on a previous theme of deconstructing the painting.

Campotondo, oil on canvas & wood [ 55cm x 56cm x 3cm]

Instead of building a wooden frame (stretcher) upon which to stretch a canvas, using similar materials I made a series of wooden circles decreasing in size then wound the crushed canvas within the circles to make a spiral. It was all then prepared like a traditional canvas, with coats of rabbit skin glue, then hot gesso, and lastly painted vaguely like a colourwheel to be in keeping with the circular aspect.
